Michael Jackson's "Don't Stop Til You Get Enough' ....my favorite song of his. When the beat drops to that song, I feel like I'm in a whole other time...your entire body just grooves. But every note in any MJ song will hit your body like nothing you've ever felt before. It's as if your limbs gain a mind of their own...

His curly fro, bright eyes and smile in this video always stuck with me.

Later, this young boy would grow to become one of the most world renowned entertainers in history..

My plan for this blog was to report what everyone else has been...MJ's death, the autopsy going on and the way that the news keeps bringing up the infamous allegations. I had paragraphs prepared but something told me to just write whatever came across my mind..my own feelings. I was raised that when someone passes, we aren't to cry...no, we celebrate! Not only is he in a better place, but now MJ and his idol James Brown can show Heaven how to really get down!

BET just celebrated his life last night on their 2009 awards show. Various artists came to the stage to do their own MJ tributes. Jaime Foxx attempted a MJ moonwalk but in my opinion I think he was just a wee bit tipsy..haha but that me! The show itself opened with New Edition's tribute to the Jackson 5....such artists as Neyo, Beyonce, and Trey Songz made tributes to Jackson that had to have touched even the coldest person! I think in the amount of time that BET had to change so much, they did a wonderful job! I'm proud that they were the first to honor MJ.

I've written on my facebook numerous times that although so many artists have been influenced by Michael, there are so many more that do not bring a good name for our music..rap..hip/hop..R&B...Michael had a hand in where we are today musically. I never knew that MTV didnt play black artists...but it was Michael's talent that they could not deny.

So, I wanna celebrate! Raise your glitter glove high!

Black Eye From A Black Eye Pea

VS.

I've blogged about gossip fool Perez before but just yesterday, Perez Hilton TWEETED from his cell phone that he had been attacked by Black Eye Pea member will.I.Am. Yes people, HE did not call the police but twitted to his followers who then proceded to flood the authorities with calls in Toronto where the altercation went down. Both Will and Perez have made video statements on the matter...it appears that Perez has once again overdramtized his claim of being knocked in ithe face a few times as it seems that he only has a small cut below his right eye..will.I.Am has denied accusations of being aprat of his Perez's ultimate beat down altogether..Hilton has blown up the story posting to his website and twitter about being assulted by the Pop singer/rapper but says it was Will's manager Polo who clocked him from behind...

I'm not a big fan of Perez for what he says about celebs but whether or not hes lying ill be praying for him...he needs truth in his life for real..ill let you guys judge whether you think hes being honest..for once...

Apology For Slavery

Today, the US Senate passed an apology for slavery and segregation although no reparations and such are being talked of. I understand how sorry everyone is for what happened to our ancestors, but these images are still going to remain burned into my mind. Sometimes when I speak to my friends at the college I attend (where the majority of the population is all white) it can be hard to explain the feelings you get when you see these things. I feel they can't understand our sensitivity when they say certain things. I wanna scream when I hear people say that race is not an issue anymore. YES IT IS!! I've experienced things on many occasions that I would not chalk up to "coincidence". If its still a struggle now, I cannot imagine what it was like for my ancestors. My grandmother who is 91 years old told me of how she couldn't even go to the dentist in town because he didn't take "colored" people. It sickens me that humans can be so cruel to one another. When I really think about it, my mother and I aren't that far away from slavery on her side of the family. I believe that my great great grandmother (or add an extra great ha) was a slave..that's not too many generations and its a little scary too. A while ago, my dad showed me this movie called Rosewood that was based on a true story..the town which was occupied by both black and white people was thrown into a riot when a white woman claimed a black man raped her (when it was her own husband who was white as well). The white people in the town then raided just about every black residence in town..killing many. The movie brought me to tears. African Americans in history were hung, beaten, shot, and/or burned to death. I'm sorry senate, but I can't forget. I think our community is slowing starting to accept the apologies but do not ask us to forget.

Knowing what Dr. King and Rosa Parks, and Malcolm X faught for pushes me everyday. Knowing what my ancestors went through to ensure a future for us today pushes me everyday.
Knowing what my close family have gone through pushes me everyday.
Knowing that my president is muli-racial pushes me everyday.
Knowing that I have friends of all different races who support me pushes em everyday.

I want to rise and fly...the lord knows I do...

PETA Going In On Obama

SO I'm sure everyone has seen (and hopefully laughed) at Obama showing more of his awesomeness by being able to kill a fly with his bare hands! I love my Obama! But apparently, PETA isn't laughing. The organization who is well known for protecting the rights of animals has released a statement against Obama's actions:

"He isn't the Buddha, he's a human being and human beings have a long way to go before they think before they act."

According to foxnews.com they have even gone out of their way to send Obama a "Katcha Bug Humane Bug Catcher" ? This is some device that captures house flies and then allows a person to release them out side...I say whatever. I'm all for animal rights but come on...this is a little too much..

Fired Up NOH8: The Truth Shall Set You Free

Recently, there was some big time drama over Miss Aubrey O'Day's NoH8 photoshoot. O'Day, who is an avid supporter of the Gay community, didn't pass up the chance to show her support again Proposition 8. But it was a story released by gossip fiend Perez Hilton that alleged O'Day to be a big time diva before, during, and after the photoshoot that almost tainted a great thing. Once word got to O'Day, she fired back through Twitter:

"I am unbelievably outraged at your speculations about my participation in the NOH8 campaign. they are completely false!"

The founders of NOH8 immediatley came to Auberella's defense putting to rest the rumors spread by the story.

In the end, Aubrey is still fierce and Perez looks like a mega jerk. ;D


Oh, Dawn Richard also shot for NOH8..she looks downright ahhmazing!

Both Dawn and Aubs are working on projects (Dawn tweeting about working in the studio). Aubrey's highly anticipated reality show is coming up and D. Woods has an upcoming television show as well. These girls are getting themselves out there and I'm still proud! Can't wait for more!

Squeals & Heels

So here I am, alone, watching this scary movie called Bloody Mary or something. Any normal person would be terrified right? Well I'm kinda sucker for these things. Love love loooove scary movies!! Turn the lights out, grab some poppycorn and cuddle with that person you like most and to me that is a perfect night! Obviously this movie must not be too intense if I'm able to blog and watch it at the same time! Anyway, has anyone seen Beyonce's Obsessed yet? If you haven't you should! its def worth a theatre visit (if its still there ha..) I'm def. biased when it comes to beyonce but that woman has some talents in the acting field. I believed her role! And, who can run better in heels than the diva herself! There's a catfight scene and Bee carried it out in like 6 inch stilettos...she worked it! Of course I noticed this because I have a small fetish for heels...which reminds me..

I need new heels!!!!!

Any suggestions? I love finding great deals on shoes, especially heels! I get sooo excited for a shoe sale!! But back to Beyonce, "Sweet Dreams" is getting a video! Yaaaay!!!! I love that song, the lyrics are so pretty! It also doesnt hurt that the beats are hot on this track. With this album Beyonce has definitely served us with some meaty lyrical effects. My ears are so pleased! Well, I nee dto get back to this movie..someone just died in a tanning bed (sigh..) no wonder i haven't heard of this one...

Its official...

...Miss Danie (Lyss) has a blog! I thought that it was time to create my own blog. As an inspiring journalist, I feel this is a great start! All of this will be my opinions on topics, randomness, and whatever comes to mind. Isn't that what a blog is all about? Yeahh, I'm excited to have a blog again (again referencing xanga..remember that?) As of now, the layout and everything is under construction..and for those of you who have taken the time to read this I'd like to warn you that the majority of these blogs *will* reference DANITY KANE.

Yes, I love those girls! Even though they are disbanded at the moment, one can hope for a reunion in the future right? But for now, I'm gonna continue to support each one in whatever they decide to do...

Why Rise & Fly?

The name itself comes from a book I read when I was younger called"I Thought My Soul Would Rise & Fly: The Diary of Patsy, a Freed Girl" By Joyce Hansen. This is one of many books that inspired me to become more acquanited with my history as an African American. I plan to use this interest and incorporate it with my journalism to make our community more aware of our history. We all have so much potential and nothing is impossible. I try to tell my younger cousins that they can make it to college if they really want to because there are people willing to help you in whatever situation you may be in.

Well, I think it's time to get this blog looking the way that I want! Blessings to everyone!
